A talk FL@33 will be giving in Barcelona next March as part of the Selected – Graphic Design from Europe conference 2010 was officially announced today via selectedeurope.com – the dedicated website – that is now live (direct link to FL@33's page). Book your tickets by the end of January to get a reduction. Hope to see you there. 8) See also news from November 23rd.
November 26th, 2009
Mr Postman just delivered the December issue of Creative Review and we discovered on page 27 that Marc Valli – founder of Magma Books – kindly selected our Made & Sold book as one of the best books from 2009. Thank you very much all around – we feel very honoured. Here is a little preview clipping.
We also received a complimentary copy of the recently released book British Design 2010 (Bis Publishing) we were invited to contribute to. It even came with over one hundred run-on sheets of our spread. Not sure yet what exactly to do with those but we can of course always use them as Christmas wrapping paper... All very nice – anyway. Here is a little preview for you to look at before we post everything here at flat33.com with our next update.

Looks like Laurence King Publishing beat us to it this time and posted previews before us of a forthcoming new book we started designing for them last year and that was finished in spring 2009. It's a great book called 'Cult Streetwear' and is written by Josh Sims. To be released in March 2010, this latest FL@33-designed book features a cover by our long-time-collaborators 123Klan. We'll post a few additional spreads from the book very soon. In the meantime please do visit laurenceking.com for previews.
November 23rd, 2009 FL@33 talk
As mentioned back in September did Spanish publisher Index Book invite our very own Agathe Jacquillat to come to Barcelona to join an international judging panel in March. The jury will have the duty to select the best of the entries sent in for possible inclusion in a book entitled Selected A - Graphic Design from Europe. The deadline for submissions is December 10th, 2009 by the way.
The news today though is that the FL@33 team was also invited to Barcelona to give a talk in front of hundreds of people at a new conference organised by Index also called Selected: Graphic Desiogn from Europe. A holding page is already online now and the conference website selectedeurope.com will soon be live. We'll keep you posted and hope you'll be able to join us there next spring. Yeah! Barcelona – we are coming. It's been a while...
Found a VR tour of Barcelona's Axa Auditorium we will have our FL@33 talk in.
November 19th, 2009 CALL FOR ENTRIES!
We are now accepting submissions for an exciting third FL@33 book – provisionally called ABC Dimensional – that we conceived a long time ago and that we will now finally have a chance to compile, write and design. A truly comprehensive book that will focus entirely on physical, haptical, three-dimensional typography. The book will be published worldwide by our trusted publisher Laurence King. Please find submission guidelines and additional info on the book over at stereohype.com where we posted our call for entries. Deadline: Wednesday, 6th January 2010.

We received the first batch last weekend of Bulgarian sound submissions for our ongoing online sound collection bzzzpeek.com. They are very cute and we are hoping to get the remaining ones soon. We were also promised some Swedish recordings by someone else and a bzzzpeek.com update will therefore happen very very soon... Please do get involved if you can and submit any missing sounds and/or complete languages you might be able to help us with. Thank you. 8)

Lovely evening and a great experience to watch our own 8min20sec (2009) on the big screen during last Friday's Urban vs Suburban event in London's Transport Museum (who also have a proper cinema on their premises). We'll post our own pictures soon. In the meantime you can see a few other snapshots here.
November 6th, 2009
Please join us tonight between 6.30–10pm in Covent Garden where the London Transport Museum will host a 'Late Night' event. Urban vs Suburban: Short films, A/V performances and VJing. We are very excited about this and love love love the fact that they even have a proper cinema where all short films and animations are being screened – including our very own 8min20sec (2009). All movies will also be projected upstairs where cocktails etc can be enjoyed.
A little tip-off: to catch FL@33's 8min20sec on the big screen please be there on time. It's currently very early in the running order, so please go straight downstairs to the cinema and then pick up your cocktail afterwards... 8)
Anyone (over 18) who uses the code 'VJ001 D-Fuse guestlist' will be able to get in for £5 (instead of £7).
For more details and/or for booking advance tickets visit the LTM website ltmuseum.co.uk Hope to see you there! 8)

London's talented Mercury Quartet performed and recorded their soundtrack yesterday for our 2009 version of 8 minutes 20 seconds that is – as mentioned a few days ago – to be screened in Covent Garden at the London Transport Museum's Late Night event on Friday, the 6th November. The brand new edited and version of our video – including the soundtrack – is already online and you can now enjoy the preview here. (Sound starts slowly after 1 minute 29 seconds.)
October 23rd, 2009
Yeah! Very exciting – our publisher Laurence King gave us the green light today to release a third FL@33 book that we conceived and that we will soon start to compile, write and design... 8)

We are very excited to announce that a brand new high-definition 2009 version of FL@33's video piece 8min20sec will be screened on 6th November in London Transport Museum (LTM) as part of a new 'Friday Lates' event described as a 'multi-sensory journey of light, image, colour and sound with D-Fuse, Labmeta, *Spark and Electrovision and their collaborative set – Urban vs Suburban with VJing, audio visual performance and screenings complete with silent disco.' Sounds intriguing, doesn't it?
D-Fuse kindly included our 8min20sec piece in their curated line-up and we have today delivered 25gig of uncompressed video footage to the nice team (based – as it turned out – just down the road from us). The soundtrack for the 8min20sec piece will be recorded next Saturday by the amazing Mercury Quartet. A silent work in progress preview of 8min20sec was posted last night at Vimeo and prints of this ongoing FL@33 project are also available at stereohype.com.
Tickets for the Urban vs Suburban event are available at the LTM website ltmuseum.co.uk. Hope to see you there! 8)

This year we finalised two big book projects that were both started in 2008. One of them is of course our very own and forthcoming book Made & Sold: Toys, T-shirts, Prints, Zines and Other Stuff (Laurence King) that was conceived, compiled, written and designed by FL@33 and that will be published worldwide within the next few weeks.
The other book is called Cult Streetwear – designed by FL@33 and written by Josh Sims. It will be released in spring 2010 and we got the green light by Laurence King to finally post previews at the end of the month.
October 6th, 2009
We received a complimentary copy today of this month's Digital Arts magazine that features a Made & Sold book review as headline news story. We'll post clippings soon.

Our design initiative B.I.O. (by invitation only) button badge series went into its eighth round yesterday. B.I.O. series 8 is now – available over at our very own online boutique stereohype.com. As always did we invite and compile an intriguing mix of established and emerging talents from around the world and also contributed a set of three FL@33-designed badges to this latest addition of mobile mini canvases – bringing the total of separate badge designs featured in our growing collection to over 500! 8)

We have recently produced a few (photographic) Digital C Type prints from computer generated illustrations and were so amazed by the crisp image quality that we have now decided to release some of our artworks on this material. Street Typeface 33, Flying Roofs series and our Cityscape Insects series are now exclusively available online over at our sister company stereohype.com.
September 1st, 2009
OK. We are back in town now and it's now business as usual again. We took plenty of pictures last month at this year's MMM Festival in Switzerland and will soon post all the fluorescent green (Pantone 802) flags, banners and posters etc we designed for the festival.
Also: Our publisher received an advance copy of our forthcoming second book Made & Sold: Toys, T-shirts, Prints, Zines and Other Stuff (out worldwide in October). The eyes of Anne's stitches that are featured on the front cover have a spot UV varnish and are now glossy (while the rest of the cover is matt) – resulting in the eyes successfully following one around the room. Nice! 8)
In other news: The FL@33 anniversary prize draw we mentioned back in July – namely a FL@33-designed, signed and sold out Mr Papillon kit cat qee for a randomly selected Stereohype customer who bought FL@33 goodies – is now on its way to Francesca G. Congratulations! 8)
August 3rd, 2009

We just thought you might be interested to know that you can currently get your hands on FL@33's first book Postcard for a price that even beats Amazon. LKP even offers free delivery within the UK. That really should ease the pain to wait for Made & Sold to hit the shelves... Please visit laurenceking.com and enter the code FFSUM09 at checkout to claim your reduction.

Have a look – well – a listen and please make sure not to forget the Lithuanian pig, horse, rider and turkey. And while you are at it also listen how the Japanese snake goes and the frogs from Hungary, Japan and South Korea...

Two FL@33 projects are referenced in Rockport's new book Graphic Design, Referenced: A Visual Guide to the Language, Applications, and History of Graphic Design by Bryony Gomez-Palacio and Armin Vit. The book 'is a visual and informational guide to the most commonly referenced terms, historical moments, landmark projects, and influential practitioners in the field of graphic design.' We are extremely humbled by the authors' decision to feature our award-winning projects Eat and Be Eaten – singing pasta animation – and our self-published trans-form magazine to represent the Royal College of Art, London (which of course could fill the 400 or so pages alone – but hey, who is complaining...). 8)
July 22nd, 2009
We received our copy today of the new Laurence King book
Business Cards 3: Designs on Saying Hello by Michael Dorrian and Liz Farrelly. The book features our very own Shadows card and the sleep positions cards (using our custom-made font) we created as part of the identity and stationery for French mattress and bed supplier Matelsom. We'll post previews here at flat33.com very soon.
July 3rd, 2009 HAPPY BIRTHDAY FL@33! We are 8!
We are celebrating our eighth anniversary this month and to kick-start our activities we have a very special offer in place until 24th July over at our online boutique stereohype.com.
July 2nd, 2009
We updated our work archive in the last days so please have a look at our recent projects including our brandnew website madeandsold.com and previews of Made & Sold itself – the second book we conceived, compiled, wrote and designed (Laurence King, October 2009). We also added previews of RotoVision's forthcoming book The Graphic Eye: Photographs by International Graphic Designers that will feature a FL@33 photograph on the front cover. Also added were a forthcoming Badge Button Pin release System Error, the 2009 version of mmm-festival.org – a music festival are developing the entire visual identity and campaign for, more FL@33 photographs – many of them previously unpublished – plus pictures of the private view to the fundraising Type Tart Project – including our Naughty Helvetica contribution of course.
There are quite a few books in the pipeline that are due to be published or where recently released (and we didn't receive our complimentary copies yet). Until they are here and/or out do have a look please at the coming soon area within our press section. In our magazines, etc archive we have now also our two latest additions: this month's Grafik magazine and last month's 85th anniversary issue of Novum magazine.
June 29th, 2009
We received our copy of the freshly redesigned Grafik magazine that features in their Viewpoint section our reply to this month's question – 'Do you need to be able to draw to be a designer?'. We will add it to our press section with our next update.
In other news: We heard from Stefan G. Bucher this weekend who is the author and designer of a forthcoming book we will be featured in – entitled The Graphic Eye : Photographs by International Graphic Designers (RotoVision/Chronicle). He told us that one of our photographs made it onto the front cover of the book's paperback edition that will be releasd in September 2009. The picture was taken by us in a beautifully surreal parking lot in the heart of Paris. We'll post this and more FL@33 photographs soon here at flat33.com.
June 26th, 2009
We resisted long enough i think... and are now finally twittering like the rest of the world seems to do via twitter.com/graphicflow. @graphicflow will be a flow of graphic news from FL@33 and our Stereohype activities and will therefore include call for entries to our books and competitions, exhibitions, etc. We will also finally have a chance to twitter about some of the great websites and goodies we come across all the time that – until now – could not be featured on any of our sites. So please join us and let our twittering begin (just give us a few days to convince some of our hundreds of subscribers to actually become twitter followers, too...). We have one follower already – that's a decent start... 8)
June 25th, 2009
We just launched madeandsold.com – the dedicated website for our forthcoming book Made & Sold (Laurence King Publishing, worldwide release: October 2009).
June 24th, 2009
It's the private view tonight of the fundraising Type Tart Card project we took part in. See you later in London's KK Outlet. We'll post a few snapshots soon...
June 12th, 2009
We were invited earlier this year to contribute a piece to the Type Tart Card Project organised by Wallpaper* magazine, Type and London’s St Bride Library.
All 450 received entries can be viewed at wallpaper.com where you can also find more info on tart cards in general – in case you are not familiar with the term. The entire collection will also be on display at KK Outlet, London from 22nd to 29th June to coincide with Wallpaper’s first ever Sex Issue, in collaboration with Peter Saville. After which all Type Tart Cards – including FL@33’s card – will be auctioned and proceeds donated to the St Bride Library.
June 2nd, 2009
Last weekend – while reading the feature article of this month's 85th anniversary issue of German graphic design magazine Novum – I almost spilled my entire tea over the spread when I stumbled over a FL@33 illustration. It was apparently chosen by the magazine to be part of a small selection of visuals attempting to illustrate the last 10 years of graphic design (featured either inside or on the cover of Novum during the first decade of our century). Thank you very much to the Novum team for that and happy birthday! 8)
The selected 33 street typeface illustration was once before featured in Novum when they ran an 8-page FL@33 profile a few years ago. We also created the issue's cover at the time.
May 13th, 2009
Our online portfolio now also includes a few preview
sample spreads and the jacket
design of the forthcoming FL@33 book
Made & Sold: Toys, T-shirts, Prints, Zines and Other Stuff. It
is the second major publication conceived, compiled, written and designed
by FL@33. The book is currently being printed and will be published
worldwide by Laurence King in October 2009.
We are currently working on a dedicated website for the book that
will be launched before the book hits the shelves in autumn. The website
will feature additional info, previews, a complete list of contributors
etc.
In the meantime you are of course more than welcome to visit the dedicated
website postcard-book.info
that was launched to promote our Postcard
book.
May 7th, 2009
We updated the pictures of two recent projects today – book
jacket designs for Laurence King's brandnew
paperback editions of Wood Architecture and Stone Architecture and
a few first pictures of the ongoing print
campaign for the 2009 edition of the MMM Festival
in Switzerland.
We also updated our press section that now includes the latest list
of forthcoming books FL@33 is involved in and articles and mentions
in recent editions of Computer
Arts, Digital
Arts and Geo
Saison Extra/Brigitte Special.
April 22nd, 2009
We have been working on two big book projects in the last 12 months
or so – both to be published internationally by Laurence King.
One of them is called Cult Streetwear and is designed by FL@33 and
written by Josh Sims. It will be released in spring 2010. We are allowed
to post Cult Streetwear previews from October 2009 onwards.
The other book was finished a couple of weeks ago and is currently
being printed – ready for a worldwide release in October. It
is the second book conceived, compiled, written and designed by FL@33
and is entitled Made & Sold: Toys, T-shirts, Prints, Zines and Other Stuff.
Made & Sold features exciting products by graphic designers, illustrators
and artists from around the world. All selected items were produced
by very passionate creators who produced their items as part of their
very own sideline activities – while earning a living with visual
communication rather than product design. Products we feature in our
book include toys, badges, prints and canvases, books, mags and zines,
fonts, typographic 3D products, furniture, bags, T-shirts, jewellery,
etc. A dedicated website will soon be launched.
See details on our first book Postcard
that was released a few months ago.
April 21st, 2009

(03/2009) that is currently hitting the shelves. It includes 'Kra-Kra,
Ich bin ein Italo-Frosch' – a small 1/2 page website tip/article
on our popular online sound collection bzzzpeek.com.
The issue entitled 'Reisen mit Kindern 2009' (Travel with kids) was
exceptionally co-edited and co-published with German lifestyle magazine
Brigitte who also released the exact same issue but with their own
cover. We will post details soon. In the meantime you can visit geo.de
where they have also posted a few bzzzpeek.com excerpts.
February 20th, 2009
This month's Computer Arts magazine (159) features an article called
'Online outlets' that contains excerpts from an interview journalist
Sean Ashcroft conducted with FL@33 a while ago discussing our Stereohype
boutique. The article also plugged our
forthcoming book Made & Sold (Laurence King Publishing) that will
be released worldwide later this year. We haven't actually seen the
March issue of Computer Arts yet but it is about to hit the shelves
of your favourite newsstand. We will post previews as soon as we get
our copy. In the meantime you can visit computerarts.co.uk
for details.
