An update from France! We know it’s spring and we had enough of the cold. These incredible pictures were taken last weekend however and show our Stereohype squirrel sculpture – out in the wild – hibernating a little in beautiful Ardèche. Our sculpture's #SaveTheStereohypeSquirrel story has been documented here at flat33.com. The squirrel's fluorescent neon orange-red polygon nut is spending winter in a shed by the way...

Ooooo – the sun is out – which reminds us that we soon will have to prepare a more comprehensive post and press archive entry here at flat33.com for this beauty.
___ The revised edition of the logo design bible Logo: The reference guide to symbols and logotypes by Michael Evamy is now available from our publisher Laurence King. The new book includes nine FL@33-designed logos.
___ The original book from 2007 (and the mini edition from 2015) already included six of our designs. The revised 2021 edition also features an additional three new logos by us – two so new, that they are still not yet officially launched due to pandemic-related delays. Update | We have in the meantime updated this press entry with links to the by now officially launched Waldruche de Montremy Champagne brand logo and the French family's shield redesign.

Last week 12 students from the Graphic Design Master Course (Year 4 / M1) at ECV Lille took part in a 4-day online masterclass workshop FL@33‘s Tomi Vollauschek ran. This was the first ever online variant of our inspirational workshop Personal Projects and the Power of Three – and went rather well. The dedicated  documentation page has now been archived here at flat33.com.
___ This evolving workshop covers aspects of design thinking, design process and design philosophy and aims to inspire students to develop their own strong voice through experimentation, embracing happy accidents and personal projects.

Exciting! We are preparing the brief for a 4-day online masterclass workshop FL@33‘s Tomi Vollauschek will run next week with Graphic Design students (Year 4 / M1) at ECV Lille. This will be the first ever online variant of our inspirational workshop Personal Projects and the Power of Three. Adventures ahead – all while stuck at home.

We updated our 8min 20sec project pages with the latest digital 1080p full HD remasters of 8min 20sec video compositions, new video patchworks and also super-high-resolution sequence prints. Shown here: a preview excerpt of 8min 20sec (Cars #1).
___ We also posted a few first impressions of an ongoing Arts Affaires-commissioned FL@33 installation in Paris that was launched in March 2020 (just before the first European lockdowns). This exhibition features the latest 8min 20sec artworks
. The usually busy office spaces are more or less abandonded since last year of course. Strange times... The show must go on.

We are super-happy with the holographic mascot squirrel stickers we created for Stereohype. You can currently get a free sticker with any graphic art order over at stereohype.com.

Something’s going on... FL@33 studio fun. The computer screens between us are just ever so slightly too high for eye contact...

For a fourth year running FL@33 contributed a typographic interpretation to a calendar and design compendium by Italian paper company Fedrigoni. It's our fifth contribution in total. The latest project page is now live. See our Fedrigoni 365 (2021) contribution project page here and previous four FL@33 designs for Fedrigoni here.
___
This fourth incarnation of this beautiful design compendium and calendar 2021 features a new design by FL@33’s Tomi Vollauschek, who was briefed to create an experimental visual for the number 29 – with an allocated ‘seed word’: Break – to freely interpret.
___ Playing along the edge of legibility of two merged and intertwined numbers 2 and 9, they almost disappear as they form a joined new form, ‘breaking’ away from their expected appearance.
___ A big THANK YOU to TM and Fedrigoni for getting us involved again. It is our pleasure to be involved in such top quality collaborative projects like this.

Our latest contributions to Stereohype's FL@33-curated B.I.O. (By Invitation Only) Button Badge Series 20 that added 44 designs to the now 1613-strong collection. The designs were also applied to the more recently introduced Button Badge Motif Print edition that now features over 460 designs with commissioned artworks from talents we invite from around the world. FL@33 also contributes to these releases every year.
___ This time FL@33's Tomi Vollauschek contributed seven airport-related photographs to reflect the strange times our movement and travel is restricted.

November 25th, 2020

FL@33's annual design initiative B.I.O. (By Invitation Only) Button Badge Series just went into its 20th round and was released by FL@33's graphic art label Stereohype. Button badges, new advent calendars, new sets of four in matchbox-style gift boxes and artist/themed gift boxes of seven were launched. Many of the designs were also released as Fine Art Prints for the now 469-strong Button Badge Motif Print edition.
___ FL@33 invited Anis Tabaraee, Augustin Camus, Daniele De Batté at Artiva Design, Erik Haberfeld, Nicki Frech and Michele Jannuzzi at Jannuzzi Smith, Jens Uwe Meyer aka JUM at USOTA (United States Of The Art), Michael Czerwinski at Tucktite, Paul Farrington, Timothy O'Donnell and TM.
___ B.I.O. Series 20 features 44 badges including FL@33's Air Lines artworks. Now available at stereohype.com as part of their growing and already 1613-strong button badge collection by 600+ hand-picked talents from around the world. Please also check out the other annual FL@33 initiative – Stereohype's 16th annual Button Badge Design Competition – winners have just been released, too.

Out now: FL@33 developed and designed a new product range for Stereohype: themed advent calendars with 24 (+1) button badges. They are now available until Christmas with the following themes: Cats, Dogs, Fun, Yummy, Monsters and Abstract (shown here). Simply peel off the daily stickers and reveal the badge of the day. A few of the selected badge designs are by FL@33 but the majority we handpicked are by some of the over 600 international contributing talents that form Stereohype's already 1613-strong collection.

Getting there... Vitsoe (and Bisley) galore! The installers just left. Re-used and extended Vitsoe 606 System for our new spaces in London’s Barnsbury (Islington, N1). There is more Vitsoe next door. Plenty of space for our 100000000 books, vinyl and knick knacks that any self-respecting graphic designers would hunt and gather over the years... Updates to follow.

The ECV Aix-en-Provence jury panel including FL@33's Tomi Vollauschek congratulate the fresh new graduates. All the best to the new Masters! Remember: the journey only just begins. It was a pleasure to meet you all and to briefly see all your faces on this picture.

It is done. At last. The Stereohype squirrel has been saved. As a strange summer project in the even more bizarre year 2020, we took it upon ourselves to #SaveTheStereohypeSquirrel, rescue the collapsed cardboard polygon sculpture FL@33 originally designed and built as a 10th anniversary 3D mascot squirrel back in 2014, and revive it again in 2020 thanks to skilful (and lucky) first-time fibreglass epoxy resin experiments. We worked for a full month to resurrect the squirrel and transform it into a waterproof, outdoor sculpture with vibrant fluorescent colours to boot. It has now found a new home away from London town in a calm forest in rural France. Save the squirrel, save the world. See the complete documentation here.

Congratulations to all RCA 2020 graduates! We were honoured to be invited to be part of a super-interesting Zoom webinar panel of Royal College of Art alumni to talk about tips and tricks and experiences to share with current students and this year’s RCA Visual Communication graduates. Introductions by: Richard Doust and Lol Sargent. Host: Michele Jannuzzi. Alumni: Mark Bonner, Michele Jannuzzi, Chrissy Levett, Hazel Macmillan, Morag Myerscough, Amelia Noble, Sophie Thomas and FL@33's Tomi Vollauschek. It was recorded and will hopefully soon be available to a wider audience. We’ll keep you posted.

Our move is going really well. We are up and running again. Wishing you a nice weekend! *:) + 8)

Happy birthday FL@33! Today is our studio anniversary and we are moving to a new London address this week. Crazy times indeed. It’s been 19 years already that FL@33 started its space odyssey in 2001!
___ More info when this whirlwind is settling down a little... This is a scan of a mini Polaroid showing FL@33 founders Agathe and Tomi in 2001 at the Royal College of Art's Master of Arts graduation ball at the Ministry of Sound club in London.

FL@33 goes penthouse (for a bit). In between houses for a few weeks: our move from London's Clerkenwell via Southwark, just behind Tate Modern, to beautiful Barnsbury.

Creative Review's Aimée McLaughlin features forthcoming book Modern Heraldry: Volume Two that also includes a FL@33 creation that is – due to the pandemic – not even officially launched yet. The "Creative Inspiration" article Exploring the enduring influence of heraldry in design, is based around an interview with Jon Dowling – one of the co-authors and Counter-Print publishers of Modern Heraldry. Update | We retrospectively added a link to the Waldruche de Montremy family shield that FL@33 redesigned and that was officially launched in the meantime.

May 15th, 2020

We are over the moon that the FL@33-designed Stereohype certification seal – that is embossed in Button Badge Motif Prints – is one of two designs featured in the new book Modern Heraldry: Vol. 2 by Counter-Print. The second design is a family crest we redesigned but can't talk about it yet as it wasn't officially launched because of the pandemic... Volume 1 was also reprinted at this occasion and also features two FL@33 creations.
___ The type of the Stereohype seal was set with a thinner weight so that it looks just right when pressed through the 310gsm Hahnemühle German Etching paper of the fine art prints. The D-pin and back of badge is life-sized – like the original 25mm/1" Stereohype badges.

May 5th, 2020

Sneak peak... Beautiful foil samples for our archive arrived today from the printers. The FL@33-designed project is still on ice because of the pandemic and we can not wait to share all the details. A substantial branding and packaging project we have been working on for ages... Soon, hopefully. #sigh \/\/\/\ Stay safe and take care.

March 31st, 2020

The online documentation is now live featuring some of the results from the second round of inspirational workshops Personal Projects and the Power of Three that FL@33's Tomi Vollauschek ran in February 2020. Projects were created by year 2–3 graphic design students at ECV Bordeaux. Additional footage may still be added to our documentation page.

The Planet Earth glitch reaches London and while still healthy we pro-actively self-isolate. Stay safe and take care!

March 12th, 2020

We updated the dedicated page for Location 68's stationery today that FL@33 developed as part of the consultancy's new visual identity that also included a logo and a responsive website.
